Job summary

Lockheed Martin in Palmdale is seeking a Chief Engineer to oversee all engineering and technology activities on a restricted access aeronautics program. You will serve as the primary technical authority, coordinating with program management and customers to ensure milestones and objectives are met.

You will lead a cross-functional team, drive risk mitigation, champion airworthiness, and ensure robust designs with proper margins for safety and maintainability.

You will be the Chief Engineer for a Skunk Works restricted access aeronautics program which delivers unmatched capability to the nation

Duties

As the Chief Engineer, you will be accountable for all aspects of engineering and technology activities within a program, program area, or line of business to ensure mission milestones and business objectives are met. You will serve as a primary technical authority / technical interface with internal program management and external customers. Specific duties include:

• Ensuring proposals have sound, affordable technical solutions and schedules.


• Coordinating/collaborating with program management to:
  
  
  
  • Make key decisions, balancing technical needs and business constraints to meet program objectives
  
  
  • Ensure program plans and technical baselines are consistent with Program Control processes and modern Engineering Practices.
  
  
  • Determine the appropriate program risk posture and develop mitigation strategies for complex projects.
  
  
  
  


• Leading a technical team of cross functional engineers to:
  
  
  
  • Ensure successful system/product development and execution, managing technical scope and prioritizing problems for investigation.
  
  
  • Evaluate and implement cost effective, innovative/novel solutions
  
  
  • Champion airworthiness/mission success and drive an airworthiness/mission success culture.
  
  
  • Ensure selected designs are robust and include appropriate margins to facilitate safety, performance, producibility and operational availability/supportability.
  
  
  • Identify lessons-learned and initiate/implement corrective actions to improve ongoing and future programs.
  
  
  
  

Provide technical mentoring and career development support to the team and allocating resources effectively.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in STEM discipline


• Experience as a chief engineer or technical leader on an aerospace program


• Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to distill and articulate complex issues into succinct, cohesive executive summaries

Desired Skills

• Master’s degree in STEM discipline


• Chief engineer experience to include technical oversight of an aircraft technical baseline, risk & opportunity management, and conduct of System Engineering Technical Reviews (SETR)


• Experience in the design, flight test and/or operation of military aircraft


• Experience in aircraft flight operations and sustainment to include field repair and aircraft sortie generation


• Experience with Safety Management Systems(SMS)


• Experience with airworthiness certification for software and hardware systems


• Passion for personal accountability, achievement, learning and continual improvement

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $205300.00 - $381300.00

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
