Job summary

MITRE seeks a visionary Chief Engineer, Experimentation, to lead the development and application of HITL experimentation including tabletop exercises, wargames, and SIMEX for national security programs.

You'll drive strategy, mentor staff, and ensure high-quality engineering across live and virtual labs, aligning with MITRE’s goals and sponsors while maintaining security clearances and on-site collaboration.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of related experience with a relevant degree or 7 years with a PhD or equivalent.
• Experience designing, executing and analyzing HITL experiments for government or national security sponsors.
• Experience developing or applying modeling and simulation to support HITL experimentation.
• Ability to influence strategic decisions in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
• Proven track record of rapid problem solving across diverse domains.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; mentoring across staff levels.
• Active Top Secret/SCI clearance; US citizenship required.
• On-site work requirement: minimum 4 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical quality efforts and set standards for HITL experimentation in key programs.
• Drive capability development, infrastructure, and staff mentorship within the division.
• Collaborate with Division CE and partners to shape content and future work programs.
• Execute HITL strategy aligned to MITRE strategies and identify cross-cutting opportunities.
• Build relationships with internal and external partners and oversee lab tools and frameworks.
• Provide technical contributions directly to sponsors with measurable impact.
