Job summary

MITRE seeks a visionary Chief Engineer, Experimentation, to lead the division’s HITL experimentation capabilities, including tabletop exercises, wargaming, and simulation. You will guide technical strategy, mentor staff, and ensure high-impact, mission-oriented results across national security programs.

The role requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience (or 10 with a Master’s, 7 with a PhD), an active Top Secret/SCI clearance, and 4 days on-site per week in McLean, VA.

Qualifications

• Minimum 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor's; or 10 years with a Master’s; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience.
• Experience designing, executing and analyzing HITL experimentation methodologies such as tabletop, wargaming, or SIMEX for government or national security sponsors.
• Experience developing or applying modeling and simulation to support HITL experimentation.
• Demonstrated ability to influence strategic decisions in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Must have an active Top Secret/SCI clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical quality efforts and drive HITL experimentation capability development across programs and labs.
• Oversee infrastructure, facilities, tools, and shared frameworks supporting HITL experimentation.
• Mentor staff and contribute to staff development and technical career paths.
• Collaborate with division leadership to align experimentation capabilities with MITRE’s strategic priorities.
