Job summary

JLL is seeking a Chief Engineer in Redwood City, CA to lead the safe, reliable operation of building infrastructure and critical utilities on a corporate campus. You will guide engineering and maintenance staff, drive continuous improvement, and ensure compliance with regulations and client expectations.

The role emphasizes leadership, hands-on problem solving, and collaboration with stakeholders to deliver exceptional workplace experiences and energy-efficient operations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 8–10 years in facilities engineering or maintenance.
• 3–5 years of leadership experience managing engineering/maintenance staff.
• Experience managing facility infrastructure projects and capital improvements.
• Experience using CMMS platforms.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, chillers, boilers, electrical distribution, BAS/BMS, and life-safety systems.
• Strong knowledge of plumbing, fire/life safety, maintenance practices, and RCA methods.
• Ability to lift 80 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, work in mechanical rooms, and handle outdoor conditions.
• Willingness to work outdoors and in varied conditions.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, coaching to facilities teams and direct reports.
• Develop workforce planning, training, and professional development programs.
• Serve as senior technical authority for facility systems (HVAC, BAS/BMS, chillers, boilers).
• Ensure safe, efficient operation within budgets and plans; optimize resources.
• Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex issues; improve reliability.
• Oversee CMMS; ensure work orders are prioritized, assigned, and completed.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, EOPs, and engineering standards; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Support improvement projects, equipment installs, and infrastructure upgrades.
• Conduct facility inspections; identify repairs and capital improvements for energy efficiency.
