Job description

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and physical operation of the hotel. This is a working leadership role that combines hands‑on maintenance with oversight of building systems, vendors, and compliance. The Chief Engineer ensures the property is safe, well‑maintained, and operates efficiently to support an exceptional guest experience.

Essential Functions

  • Must adhere to the company’s Service culture – 4 Keys to creating guests for life.
  • Must participate in all resort required meetings and trainings.
  • Oversee and perform daily maintenance and repairs across guestrooms, public spaces, and back‑of‑house areas
  • Maintain and monitor building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and irrigation
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance issues proactively
  • Manage preventive maintenance programs and work order systems
  • Ensure compliance with life safety, fire, health, and OSHA requirements
  • Respond to emergency maintenance issues and coordinate after‑hours coverage as needed
  • Manage service contracts and coordinate outside vendors and contractors
  • Control engineering inventory, tools, and maintenance supplies
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inspection records, and compliance documentation
  • Support capital projects, renovations, and room turns as needed
  • Abide by all resort policies and safety rules.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hotel or facilities maintenance experience; supervisory experience preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems
  • Ability to perform hands‑on repairs and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of safety regulations, life safety systems, and preventive maintenance practices
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple maintenance needs in a fast‑paced environment
  • Flexible schedule, including on‑call availability for emergencies

Working Conditions and Schedule

  • Requires frequent physical activity, including lifting, climbing, bending and working in Mechanical Spaces.
  • Requires flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs dictate
  • Regular walking, standing, and movement throughout the property
  • Frequent lifting of materials up to 50 pounds
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 100lbs
  • Exposure to varying environmental conditions typical of hospitality operations (indoor/outdoor, noise, weather)
