As one of the nation’s largest single-source providers of lighting and electrical products, electrical services, electrical construction, and energy management solutions, we are expanding our staff and seeking a Chief Electrical Estimator to join the FSG-San Antonio team.
Job Scope
As a Chief Electrical Estimator, you will work closely with our project management, estimating, and sales departments on multi-million dollar projects. The ideal candidate should be proficient in Excel, AccuBid, Word, and possess excellent customer service skills.
Responsibilities
- Take off projects, enter estimates, and write proposals for mid to large-sized construction projects with minimal supervision.
- Review estimates and lead bid review processes with management to ensure timely and high-quality bids.
- Assign and coordinate estimating tasks to staff based on project schedules and needs.
- Drive estimating reviews to ensure comprehensive coverage of project plans, specifications, and scopes.
- Consult with project managers, clients, vendors, and stakeholders to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
- Provide guidance and support to the estimating team to resolve complex issues.
- Ensure accuracy of estimates and guide estimators daily.
- Supervise, train, and mentor estimating staff to meet company and team goals.
- Manage daily operations of a staff of up to 15, including budgets, staffing, performance reviews, and work assignments.
- Provide conceptual budgeting advice based on historical data and parametric ratios; communicate thought processes effectively.
- Assess project risks and requirements to support bid opportunity ranking and selection; contribute strategic input for competitive pricing.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders including general contractors, clients, vendors, and staff.
- Track material types, costs, labor productivity, and current trends to inform estimates.
- Manage information flow within the department to ensure timely and accurate estimates.
- Maintain the accuracy and quality of the estimating database.
- Participate in bid interviews and meet with general contractors as required.
- Provide updates and analysis on department KPIs to management.
- Develop scope letters and assist in proposal preparation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Strong executive presence with relationship-building and departmental management skills.
- Excellent communication skills for team leadership and clear direction.
- Experience in training and mentoring estimators and project management candidates.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external personnel.
- Capacity to work under tight deadlines and maintain composure under pressure.
- Expert knowledge of electrical estimating, including pricing issues and value engineering.
- Thorough understanding of the electrical industry, with general knowledge of related trades.
- Ability to incorporate NEC, building codes, and OSHA standards into estimates.
- Desire to build stakeholder relationships and participate in industry and community relations.
- Ability to identify and lead process improvements.
- Detail-oriented with clear and concise communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field preferred but not required.
- Minimum 10+ years of electrical contracting or construction experience.
- At least 8+ years of electrical estimating experience.
- Minimum 3+ years in senior management or executive roles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Accubid.
- Ability to visit job sites and interact with field personnel.
- Physical ability to stand, sit, and lift up to 40 lbs.
- Knowledge of local market and key general contracts.
