Job summary

Springer Nature US seeks a Chief Editor for BMC Biomedical Technologies in a hybrid role in New York or Shanghai. You will shape the journal's editorial strategy, lead internal and external teams, and drive quality and visibility of the research published within it.

The ideal candidate will oversee peer review, build a robust Editorial Board, and engage researchers worldwide to advance the journal's development in line with open science goals. A PhD with editorial leadership is essential.

Qualifications

• PhD level in a relevant field
• Broad interests and knowledge in biomedical technologies
• Demonstrable editorial experience in the selection and processing of manuscripts
• Effective time management and prioritization skills
• A can-do approach to problem-solving
• Influential communicator with the ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and across different portfolios
• Willing to travel occasionally and represent BMC/Springer Nature at external events
• Knowledge of current challenges and opportunities in scientific publishing

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing editorial team, directing workloads, building capability, and ensuring manuscripts meet policies, quality standards, and timelines
• Demonstrates strong leadership through building effective teams, developing talent and directing work
• Recruit, onboard, and engage external Editorial Board members, building strong professional networks and fostering collaboration
• Develop and follow a high-level strategic plan for the growth and development of the journal
• Determine and take responsibility for the content published in the journal, ensuring growth in quality and quantity
• Handle original research papers, oversee peer review, and collaborate with editors on editorial processes
• Represent the journal to external communities, meeting authors, reviewers and board members to understand priorities
• Work with internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared goals
