Role Description

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a full-time, hybid role based in Los Angeles, CA, responsible for leading and expanding all fundraising and development activities for the National Veterans Foundation. The CDO will design and execute comprehensive development strategies, including individual giving, major gifts, planned giving, annual campaigns, corporate and foundation support, and special events. Day-to-day responsibilities include setting revenue goals, managing development budgets, overseeing donor cultivation and stewardship, and preparing compelling proposals, reports, and fundraising communications. This role will collaborate closely with the Founder, Executive Director, Board of Directors, and program staff to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities and mission impact. The CDO will also build and mentor a development team, implement systems to track donor engagement, and represent NVF at community events, meetings, and presentations to strengthen relationships with supporters and partners.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated expertise in philanthropy and fundraising, including Planned Giving and Annual Giving, with a track record of meeting or exceeding revenue goals.
• Strong strategic planning and budgeting skills, with experience developing and managing multi-year development plans and departmental budgets.
• Experience building and maintaining relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and community partners, including major gift cultivation and stewardship.
• Proficiency in using donor management systems, data analysis, and reporting to support evidence-based fundraising decisions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft persuasive proposals, cases for support, and donor correspondence.
• Leadership experience managing and mentoring staff or volunteers in a development or nonprofit environment.
