Job summary

State Street is seeking a Managing Director, Head of Cryptography to define and govern the firm’s enterprise cryptography and key management strategy. This senior leader will oversee cryptographic modernization, standardization, and risk management across cloud, on-premise, and AI-enabled platforms.

You will partner with Infrastructure, Cloud Engineering, Application Development, Data, Security Architecture, IAM, and Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure cryptography is embedded by design,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/InfoSec/Math or related field.
• Advanced degree preferred.
• Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CISM, GCFA, or specialized cryptography/security certifications are highly desirable.
• 15+ years of experience in cybersecurity, cryptography, security engineering, or infrastructure security leadership roles.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the firm's comprehensive cryptography strategy, roadmap, and governance framework.
• Lead enterprise initiatives to modernize cryptographic infrastructure and services.
• Establish and operate enterprise-class key management services supporting the firm's most critical systems and data.
• Partner with Engineering, Cloud, Infrastructure, Data, Risk, and Compliance teams to embed cryptographic controls across platforms.
• Develop executive-level metrics and reporting on cryptographic maturity, risk exposure, and modernization progress.
• Drive secure-by-default cryptographic services for multi-cloud, SaaS, containers, Kubernetes, and AI/ML environments.
• Lead machine identity and certificate security programs (KPIs, lifecycle, automation).
• Oversee post-quantum cryptography readiness and migration roadmaps.
• Build and lead a world-class cryptography organization with a focus on automation, resilience, and engineering excellence.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security, Mathematics, or related discipline
