Job summary

River is building the world’s most trusted financial institution to empower people by enabling Bitcoin ownership and services. We seek a Chief Compliance Officer to own the end-to-end compliance program, serve as BSA Officer, and drive regulatory readiness with regulators, examiners, and bank partners.

The leader will scale River’s compliance function, build robust policies, and guide strategic risk decisions as the company grows toward an OCC national charter.

Qualifications

• Experience building compliance programs in regulated financial institutions.
• Proven track record managing regulatory exams and audits.
• Strong leadership and people-management capabilities.
• Excellent communication with regulators and boards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow River's compliance analytics team and set operating standards.
• Own BSA/AML and sanctions programs end-to-end, including policy, monitoring, investigations, reporting.
• Develop and maintain compliance policies and a company-wide training program.
• Oversee compliance risk assessments and drive cross-functional prioritization.
• Establish independent testing and monitoring separate from day-to-day BSA operations.
• Maintain state money transmitter licenses and advance OCC charter efforts.
• Manage regulator relationships and coordination with bank partners.
• Oversee regulatory exams, audits, and third-party assessments from prep to remediation.
• Sign off on new products/features to embed compliance at the design stage.
• Build scalable, repeatable compliance systems and processes.
• Advise executive leadership on regulatory strategy and emerging risk.
• Collaborate with Operations, Product, and Engineering to embed compliance.
