Job summary

River in New York is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer to build and own the firm’s end-to-end compliance program for a growing crypto‑friendly financial institution. You will act as the BSA Officer, oversee AML and sanctions, and partner with regulators, banks, and leadership.

You will design policies, run training, manage exams, licenses, and the OCC charter process, while embedding compliance into product development and day‑to‑day operations across River teams.

Qualifications

• Deep experience building and running compliance programs at a regulated financial institution.
• Experience serving as BSA Officer or similar role.
• Track record of managing regulatory exams and audits.
• Ability to build durable relationships with regulators and bank partners.
• Experience with OCC processes and charter applications is a strong plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow River’s team of compliance analysts, setting the bar for how the team operates, hires, and develops.
• Serve as River’s BSA Officer, owning the BSA/AML and sanctions programs end-to-end, including policy, monitoring, investigations, and reporting.
• Build and maintain River’s compliance policies and procedures across the business, and run a company-wide training program.
• Own River’s compliance risk assessment and drive cross-functional prioritization.
• Develop and run an independent compliance testing and monitoring function.
• Maintain River’s state money transmitter licenses (MTLs) and support the OCC charter process.
• Own River’s relationships with regulators and bank partners.
• Manage regulatory exams, audits, and third-party assessments from prep through remediation.
• Ensure compliance sign-off on new products and features before launch.
• Build repeatable, scalable compliance systems and processes.
• Advise the executive team and Board on regulatory strategy and risk.
• Partner with Operations, Product, and Engineering to embed compliance in River’s builds.
• Be a culture carrier, upholding trust, honesty, and rigor.
