Webot US is hiring a Chief Compliance Officer to own its entire U.S. regulatory perimeter: the digital-asset exchange business, plus any activity that falls under federal and state securities and commodities law.
The CCO is the senior compliance executive for the U.S. entity. The role designs the regulatory strategy, obtains and maintains the licenses and registrations the business needs, and runs a compliance program that withstands examination by FinCEN and state regulators.
This is a builder role as much as an oversight role. The right candidate can map a new product to the correct regulatory regime, lead the application, and then operate the resulting program day to day.
Key responsibilities:
1. Compliance leadership for the U.S. crypto exchange
- Serve as CCO of the U.S. digital-asset trading platform, owning the compliance program end to end.
- Maintain the AML/CFT program, transaction monitoring, SAR/CTR filing, and Travel Rule compliance.
- Oversee OFAC sanctions screening, including wallet screening and blockchain analytics.
- Own asset listing and delisting governance, including legal and regulatory classification of each token.
- Manage customer-asset custody and segregation controls, consumer protection, complaints, disclosures and marketing review.
2. Money transmission and state licensing
- Maintain FinCEN MSB registration and lead the state money transmitter license portfolio via NMLS, including New Jersey and other priority states.
- Evaluate and, where needed, lead applications for federal and state level applicable licenses or registrations.
- Track and implement federal stablecoin and digital-asset rules as they apply to the business.
3. Securities regulation, licensing and registration
- Analyze products and tokens under the federal securities laws and state blue-sky laws.
- Lead, where the business requires it, broker-dealer registration and FINRA membership, investment adviser registration, and related state filings.
- Act as the designated CCO for any registered entity.
4. Commodities and derivatives regulation
- Assess crypto products under the Commodity Exchange Act and CFTC rules, including spot anti-fraud and anti-manipulation authority, retail commodity transactions and leveraged/margined products.
- Lead, where required, CFTC registration and NFA membership (e.g., FCM, IB) or exchange/platform designation, and maintain ongoing NFA compliance and filings.
- Oversee derivatives compliance: position limits, large-trader reporting, swap reporting and recordkeeping, as applicable.
5. Regulatory strategy and engagement
- Serve as primary point of contact with the regulators and law enforcement authorities on federal and state level.
- Lead examinations, inquiries, investigations and remediation; manage regulatory commitments and consent orders.
- Monitor U.S. legislative and rulemaking developments on digital-asset market structure and advise management and the Board on impact.
- Partner with Product and Engineering so new products launch with the right license, disclosures and controls.
6. Program governance and team
- Build and lead the U.S. compliance team and manage outside counsel and vendors.
- Own the annual compliance risk assessment, policies, training, testing and independent audit program.
- Report regularly to the CEO, Board and Group compliance.
Qualifications:
Required
- 10+ years of compliance, regulatory or legal experience in U.S. financial services, including 5+ years in a CCO, Deputy CCO or head-of-compliance role.
- Hands-on experience with both SEC/FINRA and CFTC/NFA regulated businesses (e.g., broker-dealer, ATS, investment adviser, FCM, IB, CTA/CPO).
- Deep working knowledge of the BSA/AML framework, OFAC sanctions, and state money transmission licensing.
- Track record of leading license or registration applications and regulatory examinations through to a successful outcome.
- Experience building compliance teams and programs, and presenting to boards and regulators.
- J.D. or bachelor's degree in law, finance or a related field.
- Authorized to work in the United States; able to work from Princeton, NJ.
Preferred
- Strongly preferred: compliance leadership at a U.S. crypto exchange, custodian, broker or other digital-asset business.
- Experience with FinCEN, SEC, CFTC, crypto asset listing frameworks, blockchain analytics tools, and Travel Rule solutions.
- Relevant FINRA qualifications held or obtainable.
- Experience working with an international group.
What we offer
- Executive role with direct Board access and real ownership of a multi-regime U.S. compliance program.
- Competitive compensation package.
