Job summary

Ionis is seeking a Head of Competitive Intelligence to define the CI strategy, standards, and operating model for its portfolio. You will maintain a cross-functional view of the competitive landscape and translate insights into actionable recommendations that shape strategic choices and decision support.

You will lead a high-performing team, collaborate across Market Insights, Forecasting, Commercial, Medical, and R&D, and manage external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; PhD or advanced degree preferred.
• 15+ years pharma/biotech CI/market insights/strategy experience; or 12+ with master’s; or 8+ with PhD.
• US launch experience required; global preferred.
• Strong cross-functional influence and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead CI strategy, priorities, and operating model.
• Maintain current cross-functional view of landscape and implications.
• Synthesize insights into actionable recommendations for decisions.
• Drive readiness and rapid-response for risks and opportunities.
• Collaborate with multiple functions to test assumptions and plans.
• Build scalable CI capabilities and AI-enabled tools.
• Oversee external intelligence partners and ensure compliance.
• Plan CI for key external events and congresses.
• Develop and lead a high-performing CI team; manage resources and budget.
• Establish external networks with industry experts.
• Travel ~20% (including international).
