Overview
The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is a key executive leadership role responsible for executing the company’s global commercial strategy, overseeing the successful launch of new product(s), and establishing sustainable revenue growth. Transfusion medicine is a multi-lateral value chain comprised of blood establishments, hospitals and treating clinicians which each have their own sets of requirements and unmet needs. Effective commercialization in this field requires bringing these stakeholders together in support of innovation and a relentless focus on achieving commercial goals. The CCO will lead marketing, sales, market access and implementation functions establishing the company as a leader in its field. Market access is critical for commercial success so the individual must have demonstrated success navigating US and EU reimbursement landscapes. This individual must have a deep understanding of the biotech landscape, regulatory environment, and reimbursement models, as well as a proven track record of effectively growing new product penetration in the market.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Key Member of Executive Team: Reporting directly to the CEO will provide pan-business leadership and collaboration with the Executive Leadership Team, members of the Board, and investors to drive the success of the business. Work closely with R&D, regulatory, manufacturing and clinical teams to align product development with commercial goals.
- Global Commercial Lead: Responsible for steering and leading commercial organizational activity efficiently and effectively across the regions, including setting and delivering business plans, goals, objectives, and budgets and managing continuous improvement and performance management initiatives in all areas across the region.
- Commercial Strategy & Execution: Develop and execute comprehensive commercial strategies to drive product adoption, revenue growth, and market leadership. Demonstrates the drive, results orientation, and creative style to meaningfully impact the way the company develops and executes its commercial activities. The main objective is to develop the platform for an aggressive growth plan.
- Product Launch & Market Entry: Lead the successful launch of Hemanext’s novel product, HemanextOne, and future products, ensuring market readiness, stakeholder engagement, and sales force effectiveness. Oversee the development of marketing strategies, brand positioning, and go-to-market plans that resonate with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, payers, hospitals and blood banks.
- Sales & Business Development: Build and manage a high-performing sales team and sales programs, drive partnerships and establish strategic alliances to maximize market penetration.
- Market Access & Reimbursement: Navigate pricing, reimbursement, and market access challenges to ensure broad product adoption and financial sustainability. Stay ahead of market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs to refine commercial strategies.
- Travel Requirements: You must be willing to travel (up to 50%).
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (MBA, PhD, or equivalent) preferred.
Experience Requirements
- Leadership Experience: 15+ years’ of experience in commercial leadership roles within the biotech, medical device, or life sciences industry, within a combination of large and/or midsized, small entrepreneurial healthcare companies.
- Global Commercial Work Experience: 10+ years’ managing a region of multiple countries with demonstrated commercial success. Experience commercializing between pre-commercial stage through exit for a startup company is preferred. An understanding of the clinical landscape is a strong plus.
- Novel Product Launch: experience designing and executing a strategy to launch a novel product in a highly complex healthcare environment, building from small scale pilots to over $50M revenue in the US and EMEA.
- Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of biotechnology, regulatory pathways, pricing strategies, and reimbursement models. Experience in transfusion medicine or hematology or experience in devices for dialysis or transplant preservation is preferred.
- People and Team Management: 10+ years of team leadership and people management. Engages with the performance culture of the organization and employs a highly team-centric work style. Has been described as inspiring, driven for success, a good mentor, and holds staff accountable.

- Commercial Strategy Execution: Engages readily stakeholders and subject matter experts, keeps abreast of market intelligence and employs research data to formulate business recommendations; business acumen; has a high EQ and professional field experience to ensure the success of the commercial strategy. Sees self as the consummate Sales SME with Executive Leadership acumen.
- Communication Skills: Professional, adept and polished communicator. Demonstrated successful negotiator and influencer; comfortable with oral presentations and preparing written presentations for use with customers, at conferences, with the Executive leadership team, investors and Board to influence and achieve desired outcomes.
- Political Acumen: Models confident, professional diplomacy, while relating to people at all levels internally and externally. Discerns quickly external organizational priorities, cultural norms, and unwritten rules for success when working with customers’ internal stakeholders.
