A leading, growth-oriented clinical research services organization is seeking a Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to lead and accelerate its next phase of commercial growth. This is a highly visible executive leadership opportunity for a strategic, hands-on commercial leader who can build and execute a scalable go-to-market strategy, strengthen the organization’s market position, and drive sustainable revenue and margin growth.
The CCO will have responsibility for the organization’s overall commercial strategy, including business development, sales, inside sales, proposals, marketing, market positioning, and commercial operations. This leader will partner closely with executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure commercial priorities are aligned with operational capabilities, client needs, and the organization’s broader strategic objectives.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of strategic vision, commercial execution, team leadership, and operational discipline. This individual should be comfortable operating at both the executive and tactical levels—developing strategy while remaining close to the pipeline, clients, sales team, processes, and performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive commercial strategy aligned with the organization’s growth objectives, market opportunity, and long-term vision.
- Identify and capitalize on emerging market opportunities, industry trends, partnership opportunities, and avenues for expansion.
- Lead business development and sales efforts to generate new business, expand strategic relationships, and increase market share.
- Oversee the full commercial lifecycle, including lead generation, pipeline development, client engagement, proposals, negotiations, and contract execution.
- Establish a compelling market positioning and branding strategy that clearly differentiates the organization and communicates its value proposition.
- Evaluate and enhance marketing, digital outreach, and business development programs to increase brand visibility, engagement, and qualified opportunities.
- Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing commercial organization capable of consistently delivering against ambitious growth objectives.
- Assess organizational talent, identify capability gaps, and develop strategies for recruiting, retaining, and developing top commercial talent.
- Establish scalable sales processes, systems, tools, and workflows that enable the organization to grow efficiently.
- Develop and implement dashboards, reporting structures, analytics, and KPIs that provide clear visibility into commercial performance and support data-driven decision-making.
- Monitor pipeline health, sales activity, conversion rates, revenue performance, margins, and other key commercial metrics.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, performance, and continuous improvement across all commercial functions.
- Partner closely with operations, clinical, research, and other functional leaders to ensure commercial commitments align with service delivery capabilities.
- Maintain a strong understanding of client needs and market feedback and translate those insights into opportunities for service enhancement and innovation.
- Present commercial strategy, performance, market insights, and growth initiatives to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, helping ensure the organization remains aligned around customer needs, market opportunities, and strategic priorities.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, or a related discipline required.
- MBA preferred.
- 12+ years of progressive commercial or executive leadership experience within the clinical research, CRO, IRO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related healthcare services industries.
- At least 4 years of experience within a clinical research services environment required.
- Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience overseeing functions that include business development and/or sales.
- Demonstrated experience leading commercial transformation, organizational growth, or significant go-to-market initiatives strongly preferred.
