Job summary

Napa County is seeking its next Chief Building Official to provide strategic and operational leadership for the Building Inspection Division within the Planning, Building, and Environmental Services Department. The role oversees a comprehensive building permitting and inspection program, including plan review, permit issuance, inspections, and customer service.

The ideal candidate will bring strong technical knowledge, collaborative leadership, and a customer-focused, solutions-oriented approach

Qualifications

• Six years of increasingly responsible building inspection experience including four years of administrative and supervisory responsibility.
• Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in architecture, engineering, construction technology, planning, or a related field.
• Must be certified as a Chief Building Official within one year of appointment.
• Plans Examiner certification from the ICC is highly desirable.
• DSA CASp certification is highly desirable.
• Possession of a valid drivers license.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for the Building Inspection Division within the Planning, Building, and Environmental Services Department.
• Oversee a comprehensive building permitting and inspection program including plan review, permit issuance, inspections, code interpretation, and customer service.
• Lead a professional team, establish division goals, processes, policies, and manage resources and budgets.
• Collaborate with internal departments, regulatory agencies, design professionals, contractors, property owners, and the community to ensure high service standards and regulatory compliance.
• Foster continuous improvement, innovation, and a data-driven approach to decision-making.

Education

Bachelors degree in architecture/engineering/construction technology/planning or related field
