Job summary

City of DeSoto is seeking a Director of Code Compliance to manage programs and coordinate review and inspection services for all building permit activities.

You will lead plan reviews, direct inspections, hire and evaluate staff, oversee outside contracting, and develop budgets; represent the department to City Council and commissions.

This role requires extensive knowledge of building, zoning codes, and the ability to work with developers and citizens to enforce code compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.
• Five years of related work experience.
• Certified Building Official (CBO) preferred; RA preferred.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Texas Plumbing Inspector License within one year of hire (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Manage all building permit activities and plan reviews, coordinating with developers, architects, and engineers.
• Direct inspection activities for code compliance and resolve issues or complaints.
• Oversee outside contracting, vendor management, and budget expenditures.
• Interpret and enforce building and zoning codes per regulations; guide staff and stakeholders.
• Represent the department on City Council, boards and commissions; lead outreach on code changes.
