Job summary

City of DeSoto is seeking a Building Inspector to inspect new and existing construction for code compliance, review plans, and coordinate with contractors and owners. The role includes enforcing codes, issuing permits, and preparing reports.

Candidates must hold a related degree or equivalent experience, have a valid driver’s license, and be ready to obtain a Texas Plumbing Inspector License within one year of hire.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/experience required.
• Must have valid driver's license.
• Ability to obtain TX Plumbing Inspector License within 1 year of hire.
• Knowledge of building codes and standards.
• Experience reading plans and interpreting codes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new and existing commercial and residential construction for code compliance.
• Review and interpret plans; inspect structures and projects; meet with contractors and property owners.
• Enforce codes and issue permits; prepare reports and maintain documentation.
• Respond to requests, answer inquiries, investigate incidents, and prepare budget documents.
