Job summary

Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC, invites applications for a Chief Academic Officer in Bethesda, MD. This role leads all academic programs from Nursery through Secondary, ensuring accreditation and strategic alignment with the school’s mission.

The CAO will supervise directors and faculty, manage budgets, and drive professional development while strengthening student outcomes and college pathways in a diverse, international setting.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
• Experience as Head of School or Chief Academic Officer in a school accredited by the French Ministry of Education.
• Deep knowledge of the French Educational Curriculum.
• Fluent oral and written communication in French and English.
• Strong interpersonal, team-building, and organizational leadership skills.
• Willingness to work evenings and weekends for school events.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the academic activities of all school programs including French and IB across all divisions.
• Implement the academic objectives of the school as defined in the strategic plan.
• Ensure compliance of all programs with accreditations.
• Supervise the academic team and organize exams and certifications.
• Recruit, evaluate, and retain faculty aligned with the school’s goals.
• Oversee academic budgets and resource allocation.
• Design and evaluate a school-wide professional development strategy.
• Annually analyze academic programs using KPIs.
• Coordinate College Counseling to align with university admissions.
• Provide strategic oversight of Student Support Services.
• Evaluate educational technology use and impact.
