Job summary

Caliber Inc. in Chicago seeks a Customs Entry Specialist to prepare and process documentation for imported and exported shipments, ensuring CBP compliance and accurate classifications.

You will work with carriers, clients, and freight forwarders to gather invoices, bills of lading, and packing lists, monitor timelines, and respond to CBP information requests.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process customs entry documentation for imported and exported shipments in compliance with CBP regulations.
• Classify goods using HTS and apply duty rates, trade agreements, and special programs.
• Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, and clients to obtain invoices, bills of lading, and packing lists.
• Monitor shipment timelines to ensure timely customs clearance and avoid delays.
• Review CBP requests for information, exams, or holds and communicate resolution status to stakeholders.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trade regulations, tariff schedules, and agency requirements affecting client shipments.
• Support improvements of internal compliance processes, entry workflows, and client reporting accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and process customs entry documentation for imported and exported shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations.
• Classify goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and apply appropriate duty rates, trade agreements, and special programs (e.g., GSP, USMCA).
• Coordinate with carriers, freight forwarders, and clients to obtain required import/export documentation including commercial invoices, bills of lading, and packing lists.
• Monitor and manage shipment timelines to ensure timely customs clearance and prevent delays or additional storage fees.
• Review and respond to CBP requests for information, exams, or holds, communicating resolution status to all relevant parties.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changing trade regulations, tariff schedules, and government agency requirements (FDA, USDA, FCC, etc.) that affect client shipments.
• Support continuous improvement of internal compliance processes, entry workflows, and client reporting accuracy.
