Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Hospital Pharmacy Technician to work under a pharmacist, processing medications that require special handling. You will prepare and pre-pack chemotherapy drugs, read prescriptions, and keep meticulous records of medications dispensed.

The role includes maintaining aseptic conditions and assisting in staff training on safe handling of chemotherapeutics. Qualifications include a Michigan Pharmacy Technician license and at least one year of hospital or retail pharmacy

Qualifications

Requires a high school diploma or GED.
Requires a valid Michigan Pharmacy Technician license.
Requires at least one year of experience as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician and/or Retail Pharmacy Technician (retail experience applies only to medication history positions).

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the pharmacist, prepares and pre-packages chemotherapy medications and/or other medications requiring special handling, preparation or accountability.
Reads and transcribes prescription orders and prepares prescription labels for medication dispensed.
Maintains appropriate records of medications dispensed.
Prepares preliminary drug therapy monitoring forms for use by pharmacists in assessing drug treatment.
Restocks the drug dispensing areas and maintains the cleanliness and aseptic conditions of the Class II Vertical Flow Hood and/or other required equipment.
Assists in preparing and presenting programs and protocols involving proper handling of chemotherapeutic and/or other special agents.
Assists in training hospital personnel in the safe handling of chemotherapeutic and/or other special agents.
Performs other duties as assigned.
