Job summary

Henry Ford Health in Michigan is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist under pharmacist supervision, processing orders for medications requiring special handling and ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance in distribution.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a Michigan Pharmacy Technician license, and at least one year of hospital or retail pharmacy experience, plus the ability to maintain records, perform calculations, and work aseptically in a vertical flow hood environment.

Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Requires a valid Pharmacy Technician license from the State of Michigan.
  • Requires at least one year of experience as a Hospital Pharmacy Technician and/or Retail Pharmacy Technician (retail experience applies only to medication history positions).
  • Requires the ability to maintain records and perform calculations. Must have the ability, when applicable, to safely handle and manipulate cytotoxic and other special drugs and incidental equipment used in drug preparation, including the ability to work aseptically in a vertical flow hood environment.
  • Must have the ability to maintain Investigational Drug Research Records and to validate doses ordered using Investigational Drug Protocols.
  • Must have the ability to maintain (lift, carry, stock) pharmacy inventory and deliver prescriptions (transport) to nursing units.
  • Must have the ability to use a computer keyboard and type approximately 25 WPM.
  • Must be able to read, interpret and utilize literature relating to medications that require special handling, preparation or accountability to develop or modify, in consultation with a supervising pharmacist, departmental protocols pertaining to the use of these agents.

Responsibilities

  • Verify medication orders for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate dosing in accordance with established pharmacy protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Prepare and compound medications using aseptic technique standards, including work within vertical flow hoods and specialized equipment, while maintaining comprehensive records related to medication preparation, inventory, and patient administration.
  • Manage pharmacy inventory by receiving, organizing, stocking, and rotating medications and supplies while monitoring stock levels and communicating reorder needs to the supervising pharmacist.
  • Transport prepared medications and prescriptions to nursing units and other departments in a timely and secure manner while maintaining medication integrity.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols, safety procedures, and regulatory compliance requirements specific to infusion pharmacy operations, and communicate effectively with pharmacy staff and healthcare team members to ensure safe medication delivery.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of pharmacy equipment and report any malfunctions to the supervising pharmacist.
