MilliporeSigma is seeking a motivated Chemistry Process Documentation Co-op to support the Process Development team at its Urbana, Illinois facility. Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Process Safety, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with chemical processes, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and communicate it clearly through written documents, diagrams, and presentations.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use stairs, hear, and communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all work safely and follow applicable EH&S policies, procedures, training, and site requirements.
  • Work with our team of chemists and other subject‑matter experts to understand the manufacturing processes used in the facility and their variations.
  • Collect, compile, and organize equipment information such as specifications, materials of construction, and aftermarket modifications.
  • Create and update chemical equations and process flow diagrams (PFDs) using approved procedures and verified process knowledge.
  • Review and revise existing processes, laboratory notes, and related technical documentation to ensure completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including Process Development, Operations, Maintenance/Engineering, Quality, and EH&S.
  • Present findings and recommendations clearly to technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate records of revisions, decisions, open items, and completed documentation activities.

MilliporeSigma is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Chemistry Process Documentation Co-op to support the Process Development team at its Urbana, Illinois facility. Working under the guidance of the Process Development Supervisor, you will generate clear chemical equations and process flow diagrams for assorted high-purity salts and halides manufactured at the facility, and document equipment specifications and parameters involved in these processes as well. This technical documentation will further support process safety initiatives in development at the site. You will work both on and off the manufacturing floor with chemists and cross-functional partners in Process Development, Operations, Maintenance/Engineering, Quality, and Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S). This internship is well suited to a candidate who enjoys learning how chemical processes work, organizing complex technical information, and communicating it clearly through written documents and visual diagrams.

Required qualifications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Process Engineering, Process Safety, or a related scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Familiarity with chemical processes, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret technical information and communicate it clearly through written documents, diagrams, and presentations.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use stairs, hear, and communicate effectively in a manufacturing environment with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Nice to have exposure through coursework, laboratory work, or prior experience to chemical hazard assessments, job hazard analyses/job safety analyses, HAZOP, or similar structured review methods.
Salary and Working Hours

Salary: $25 - $32 per hour

Shift: First

Work hours: 8 AM - 5 PM
