Job summary

Randstad USA is seeking a lab-focused CO-OP for MilliporeSigma in Missouri. The position runs January through June 2027 and requires active enrollment in an academic program.

The role emphasizes enzyme materials, data gathering, and protocol development with hands-on cell culture, ELISA, SDS-PAGE, and recombinant protein work. The project includes literature analysis, protocol drafting, and collaboration on improving enzyme variants, with a 8:00am–5:00pm schedule and pay in the $25–$32 per hour

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineer, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Microbiology or Biochemistry.
  • Experience with basic laboratory instrumentation and methods such as preparation of buffers.
  • Experience with ELISA and SDS-PAGE.
  • Hands-on cell culture experience and ability to document experiments.
  • Ability to read literature and develop experimental plans.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Data gathering and validation: compare materials vs competitors and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop standard references and draft step-by-step instructions from literature.
  • Validate protocols in a laboratory setting and gather key references.
  • Technology positioning: correlate literature references for key materials by supplier.
  • Optimization of recombinant enzymes: express in E. coli and optimize growth/purification to improve yield.

***THIS IS A 6-MONTH CO-OP STARTING JANUARY 4, 2027 THROUGH JUNE 25TH, 2027. TO QUALIFY, THE CANDIDATE HAS TO BE ACTIVELY ENROLLED IN AN ACADEMIC PROGRAM***

Over the course of this Co-Op the participant will learn about what attributes are most important in enzymatic materials for various markets, how such materials are used and methods for optimization and manufacture. They will then apply this knowledge to create protocols and application notes for existing enzymes as well as collaborating in the development of improved versions recombinantly.

Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineer, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, Microbiology or Biochemistry
Must have skills:
  • Hands on laboratory experience with cell culture
  • Ability to evaluate scientific literature and to develop experimental plans
  • Knowledge of laboratory documentation best practices and ability to keep an accurate lab notebook
  • Training with basic laboratory instrumentation and methods such as preparation of buffers
  • Experience with basic protein characterization techniques such as ELISA and SDS-PAGE
Nice to have skills:
  • Experience with transfection, transformation and purification of recombinant proteins
  • Experience with Mamallian cell lines and procedures for levels 1 and 2 bio safety level laboratories
  • Previous experience with computational structural biology
  • Experience independently managing a research project

salary: $25 - $32 per hour

work hours: 8 AM - 5 PM

Responsibilities
1) Technical Data gathering and validation
  • Compare positioning of materials with competitors and identify areas for improvement
  • Gather protocols and use information for key products
  • Draft step by step instructions based on literature
  • Validate protocols in Laboratory setting
  • Gather references, highlight key product attributes correlate data
2) Technology positioning
  • Correlate literature references for key materials by supplier
  • Evaluate quality and characteristic needs by target market
  • Develop standard requirements for biomaterials based on market and application
3) Optimization of Recombinant Enzymes
  • Work with colleagues to identify potential structural improvements for native enzymes
  • Express identified enzymes in E. Coli
  • Test and implement growth and purification conditions to ensure optimal yield
  • Validate performance and key characteristics
