Job description

Genex Systems is looking for Chemistry Laboratory Technician to support the Chemistry Laboratory at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, VA.

Position Duties:

• Assist Research Chemist in conducting standard and specialized testing on concrete, asphalt, and other highway materials.
• Sample preparation involving, but not limited to

- Preparing sample test tubes for testing according to AASHTO TP 144 and AASHTO T 416

- Preparing samples for XRD, XRF and ICP analysis

- Preparation of SEM samples, including sectioning concrete/mortar specimens and performing epoxy impregnation

- Crushing and sieving aggregates

• Calibration of instruments, including preparation of calibration standards
• Data collection using analytical techniques such as ICP, TGA, PSD
• Maintain the laboratory in a clean and safe condition.

Required Qualifications:

• Associate degree in chemistry or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of standard wet chemistry laboratory techniques.
• Familiarity with ICP analysis is desired.
• Ability to perform physical work such as moving heavy gas cylinders.
• Basic computer skills (word processing and spreadsheets) for purposes of
  data compilation.
