JOB SUMMARY
The Chemistry Laboratory Technician will support R&D Management and Scientists by assisting with the creation and execution of investigative research experiments of basic complexity and a focused set of duties that support Sterilex’s new product development initiatives and objectives. Additionally, the role includes carrying out routine laboratory operations and maintenance as needed and supporting quality assurance, quality control, and manufacturing by conducting routine technical assays and experiments. General responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Assist R&D Scientists by setting up laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests, research, or quality control.
- Use basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
- Collect, record, and provide basic interpretation of data using basic scientific principles and theories, conduct basic analyses, and compare findings to relevant studies.
- Support quality assurance through the maintenance of equipment records and chemical inventory.
- Support Chemistry and Analytical Laboratory operations and maintenance under the direction of R&D/Chemistry Managers.
This position is regularly scheduled to be staffed Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional overtime as needed to support department and company business needs.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. New Product Development and In-Line Maintenance Support
- Under the supervision of Laboratory Scientists, set up and conduct experiments/routine assays, including but not limited to various titrations, loss on drying, pH and density measurements, etc. that support product development projects and/or QC of manufactured products
- Compile and document results, draw conclusions, provide recommendations supported by experiments, and conduct follow-on experiments as appropriate
- Prepare reports that are technically correct and contain independently developed conclusions and recommendations
2. Chemistry Lab Operations Support
- Assist with the day-to-day operation of the Chemistry and Analytical Labs, including maintaining general cleanliness, organization and Safety and GLP compliance.
- Maintain equipment and instrument calibrations through regular checks and update logs under GLP requirements
- Maintain inventory of chemicals and assist in inventory reconciliations/reporting
- Receive training and assist with waste stream operations and hazardous waste disposal
- Perform other duties as requested in support of the department and company business needs
3. Quality Assurance/GLP Compliance support
Provides administrative support to department quality program, including:
- Assisting with GLP study preparation (verifying validity of raw materials, reagents and equipment logs)
- Drafting of GLP protocols and reports
- Generation and organization of GLP study electronic files and uploading to the share drive
- Organization and submission of hard copy study files to archives
- Generating and updating standard operating procedures and test methods
Requirements
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- B.S. degree in Chemistry or related degree from a four-year college or university with 6 months - 2 years of experience working in a GMP/GLP lab and familiarity with GMP/GLP requirements
- Demonstratable organizational skills and ability to maintain a clean and orderly working environment
- Generating and updating standard operating procedures and test methods
- Understanding of industrial laboratory processes and procedures including proper maintenance of laboratory notebooks and general laboratory safety procedures is preferred
- Understanding and application of equations, calculations, and other advanced math functions typically found in a laboratory setting. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret graphical data.
- Experience with authoring GMP/GLP documentation, for example: raw data recording, protocols/reports, and SOPs
- Ability to read, comprehend and follow documents, including standard operating procedures, test methods, safety rules and regulations, and instrument operating and maintenance instructions.
- Ability to execute written procedures and experiments with minimal supervision.
- Motivated to take full ownership of assigned tasks
- Competent to prepare and carefully review figures, computations, tests, reports, etc., and ensure internal consistency.
- Ability to recognize inconsistencies in data and execute corrective actions in consultation with R&D management to mitigate issues
- Good written and oral communication skills and effective interpersonal skills
- Computer literate: MS Office, programs to operate equipment, other related software, email etc.
