Job summary

Stony Brook University is seeking an Instructional Support Technician to provide chemistry lab technical support for Organic and General Chemistry laboratories and related courses. The role involves assisting faculty with experiment design, preparation, and evaluation, ensuring instruments are functional and reagents are standardized for over 1,000 students each semester.

Evening hours are required, with flexibility in schedule.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Chemistry or a related field is required.
Two (2) years of full time work/research experience in Chemistry or related field is required.
Must be able to move lab supplies up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

Provide technical support for Organic and General Chemistry instructional laboratories and related courses.
Assist faculty in developing and evaluating experiments and ensuring functional instrumentation and properly prepared materials.
Manage course preparation, stockroom, budgeting, and student check-in for large multi-section courses.
Hire and supervise student assistants and maintain safety culture and attendance records.
Operate, calibrate, repair and modify instrumentation; adapt apparatus to pedagogical needs.
