Job description

Position Overview

Chemistry Instructor (Part‑Time Faculty Pool) Madera Community College.
Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis as part of a continuous recruitment effort. If selected, start dates may vary. The position is part of an applicant pool for part‑time faculty positions; vacancies are filled as they arise.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a part‑time schedule of Chemistry courses as assigned.
  • Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate a wide range of instructional delivery systems, including innovative and creative uses of technology for face‑to‑face, online, and hybrid formats.
  • Communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter and adhere to institutionally approved curriculum course outlines of record.
  • Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, oral responses, etc., in keeping with course objectives.
  • Provide course syllabi to students.
  • Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
  • Turn in all required student grading and evaluation reports promptly.
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including classes as needed.
  • Otherwise fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, with a focus on equity‑minded practice.
  • Master’s degree in chemistry; or Bachelor’s in chemistry or biochemistry and a Master’s in biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical physics, physics, molecular biology, or geochemistry; or a valid California Community College Credential; or equivalent education and/or experience as determined by equivalency.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience and skill integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Recent experience working with underrepresented student populations in the classroom and understanding historical patterns of exclusion.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students.
  • Professional experience that demonstrates collaboration with faculty and staff to enhance instruction, curriculum, and student learning.
  • Competence with computers and technologies used for high‑quality instruction and support.
  • Effective communication skills with students and staff.
  • Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials.
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals.
Salary and Benefits
  • Newly hired part‑time faculty are placed on step one of the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Schedule.
  • Salary classification is based on education and experience as outlined in the Part‑Time Faculty Salary Classifications.
  • Sick leave accrual based on assignment hours.
Selection Procedure

The hiring department will contact selected candidates directly. There is no closing date; applications remain open until the pool expires in 18 months. If an application is not acted upon within that timeframe and the applicant wishes to pursue opportunities again, a new application must be submitted.
