Job summary

Columbus Technical College is seeking a full-time Chemistry Instructor to prepare lesson plans and evaluate student progress in chemistry courses. This on-campus role requires day and evening hours and adherence to safety in classrooms and labs.

The position is exempt and includes teaching fall, spring, and summer semesters, with responsibilities across lecture and lab delivery and maintaining course documentation.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Chemistry from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience with instruction in a postsecondary setting and learning management systems.
  • Ability to travel within service area may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Delivers effective instruction for Chemistry lecture & lab classes.
  • Teaches fall, spring, and summer semesters.
  • Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures.
  • Evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives and provide feedback in a timely manner.
  • Follow state standards in developing course outlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Ensure consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, testing, labs and other appropriate course work.
  • Request and maintain supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.

Job Description:

Columbus Technical College is seeking an individual to serve as a full-time instructor for Chemistry. Under general supervision, this individual will prepare lesson plans for classroom instruction, and evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals, objectives, and student learning outcomes. This position is on campus and requires day and evening hours. This position is full-time/exempt.

Note: Although this position is typically performed in an office or classroom/lab environment, employees may frequently lift objects up to 25lbs. Exposure to dirt, dust, chemicals, fumes, and hazardous materials is possible in the laboratory environment.The ability to distinguish colors and hand dexterity will be required.

Please note the following information regarding this position:
  • May be required to teach high school students

  • May require occasional weekends

  • May require teaching on or off campus throughout our service delivery area (Muscogee County, Stewart County, Quitman County, Chattahoochee County, Harris County, and Talbot County)

  • May require travel

Responsibilities
  • Delivers effective instruction for Chemistry lecture & lab classes

  • Teaches fall, spring, and summer semesters

  • Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in classrooms and labs by following established procedures

  • Evaluate students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives and provide feedback in a timely manner

  • Follow state standards in developing course outlines, goals, and objectives

  • Ensure consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, testing, labs and other appropriate course work

  • Request and maintain supplies, tools, and equipment

  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports

  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature

  • Responds promptly to administrative requests and adheres to college policies and procedures

  • Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students

  • Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.

  • Strong time management and organization skills

  • Effective written and oral communication

  • Keen observation, supervision, and evaluation skills

  • General computer knowledge (Microsoft Office Products)

  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications
  • A Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university in Chemistry

  • A Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours or 27 graduate quarter hours in Chemistry

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with instruction in a postsecondary setting and experience with learning management systems.

  • Experience with analyzing student learning outcomes and course data.

Salary/Benefits

Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Benefits include state holidays, annual leave, and sick leave, State of Georgia Retirement, Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
