Job summary

KDC-ONE in Saddle Brook, NJ is seeking a Chemist for the Chemaid Research & Development Lab. You will report to the Technical Director and contribute to formulation development, bench batch prep, and data maintenance in a collaborative cosmetics R&D setting.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Chemistry with 5–8 years in personal care, strong analytical skills, and proficiency with Excel and lab equipment. Exempt role with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent with related experience.
  • 5–8 years in personal care, hair care, or skin care industries.
  • 4+ years in a Research & Development chemist role.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare bench batches for client approvals based on formulations.
  • Analyze test data and suggest improvements to formulas or methods.
  • Collaborate with formulators to optimize processes and analytical methods.
  • Ensure stability and efficacy per project requirements and maintain data.
  • Maintain lab notebooks and electronic data entries for accuracy.
  • Evaluate information to select best solutions to problems.
  • Train and mentor junior chemists on procedures and equipment use.
  • Adhere to cGMP, GLP, and SOPs for the personal care industry.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

About the Role:

Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare submission bench batches for client approvals based on prescribed formulations and product specifications.
  • Compile and analyze test information to make improvements as needed to reach desired results.
  • Confer with formulators and provide recommendations to improve or customize formulas, processes or analytical methods.
  • Ensure stability, and efficacy according to project requirements. Issue product specifications as required and maintain relevant data throughout each product’s development.
  • Maintain accurate real time entries on lab notebooks to ensure accuracy and completeness and associated electronic data bases.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose/recommend the best solution for solving problems.
  • Participate in the training and mentoring of junior chemists to ensure compliance with proper laboratory procedures, lab notebook entries and equipment use.
  • Maintain adherence to cGMP’s (current Good Manufacturing Procedures), GLP’s (Good Laboratory Procedures), and SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures) for the personal care industry.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Our Perfect Candidate
  • Strong knowledge of chemistry and chemical interactions for personal care, hair care and skin care products.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude.
  • Professional written and oral communication skills.
  • Computer literate in Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Attention to detail and analytical thinking, ability to apply general concepts to specific problems to produce positive results
  • Must be familiar with laboratory equipment used in the process of creating bench batches.
  • Has basic working knowledge and understanding of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within the field.
  • Exercises independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance with relation to matters of importance within the Research & Development company sector
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Chemistry and/or a combination of vocational training, education and experience that is equivalent to the employment standards listed above and provides the required knowledge and skills.
  • Five (5) to eight (8) years’ experience in the personal care, hair care and skin care industry. A minimum of four (4) years in a Research and Development Junior Chemist or Chemist role.

Physical Demands: While performing duties of the job, employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time (for prolonged periods of time exceeding 1 hour) walk; sit; use hands to handle objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk and hear. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job the employee may be exposed to chemical fumes resulting from the compounding/batch making process. Employee will be provided with the required safety breathing masks as required. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
