Job summary

Packaging Corporation of America (PCA) is seeking a chemical/paper engineering co-op or process control co-op. The role supports mill optimization, data-driven decisions, and testing across process and control domains.

Qualified students must maintain a 3.0 GPA, be a U.S. resident with a valid driver’s license, and be enrolled in Chemical or Paper Engineering. Eligible schools and regional mill opportunities are noted in the posting.

Qualifications

• Must have a GPA of 3.0/4.0.
• Must be a permanent U.S. resident with a valid driver's license.
• Majoring in Chemical or Paper Engineering or related field and completed freshman year (at time of co-op).
• Must be 18 years or older at time of co-op/intern.

Responsibilities

• Support process optimization and projects to improve mill efficiency, reliability, quality, safety, and cost.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret process data to troubleshoot issues and support decisions.
• Conduct routine pulp, paper, and chemical testing for process evaluations and quality control.
• Monitor key process sensing equipment, consistency loops, and control systems for accuracy and reliability.
• Support startup activities, maintenance inspections, and safety documentation updates.
• Additional duties as requested by management.
• For process control co-op: assist with system audits, loop checks, and documentation updates.
