Job summary

IMEG in Utica, MI is offering a 10-12 week Summer Internship for Chemical Engineering students. You’ll assist in design portions of chemical processes, develop PFDs and P&IDs, and support project budgets and documentation under experienced engineers.

This paid internship provides hands-on project experience and mentorship from day one, with exposure to industrial, manufacturing, and MEP work within a 100% employee-owned firm.

Qualifications

• Completed at least 2 years towards a BS in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent required.
• Strong interest in design consulting.
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM.
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with design portions of chemical process projects according to code and IMEG standards.
• Research commercially available equipment and support the development of equipment and instrument specifications.
• Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s).
• Perform and document technical and engineering calculations associated with design tasks.
• Perform field work to document existing conditions and current installations.
• Support cost estimate development, including quote solicitation from vendors.
• Assist in process controls design and development and bid package documentation development.
• Review project construction progress and help monitor overall project design progress.
• Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions promptly for permanent record files.
• Assist with review of project documents for accuracy and completeness prior to requesting a final check.
• Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, architects, and project managers, to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals.

What You’ll Bring

Required Education

• Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent required

Required Skills/Abilities

• Strong interest in design consulting
• Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM
• Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

Preferred

• AutoCAD and AutoCAD Plant 3D experience a plus
• Prior internship experience in the engineering consulting or chemical process industry preferred
