Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs invites applicants for an intern/co-op position in Middletown, Ohio. The term may be completed in Spring or Summer, with timing discussed during the interview.

You will work with engineers to analyze failures, test materials, and help design fabrication methods in a leading steel environment. Eligibility requires current enrollment in a BS program in Chemical Engineering or related field and completion of sophomore year by 2027.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering or related technical degree.
  • Completion of at least sophomore year by the summer of 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze product failure data and lab results to determine causes and solutions.
  • Conduct tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure quality.
  • Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials.
  • Design and direct testing and control of processing procedures.
  • Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to design objectives.
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate deterioration.
  • Plan and implement laboratory operations meeting cost, product spec, and performance standards.
  • Review new product plans and recommend manufacturability improvements.

Co-op term may be completed during either the Spring (January to May) or Summer (May to August) semester, with timing to be discussed during the interview process.

Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
  • Conduct tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality
  • Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials
  • Design and direct the testing and/or control of processing procedures
  • Determine appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials
  • Evaluate technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate material deterioration
  • Plan and implement laboratory operations for the purpose of developing material and fabrication procedures that meet cost, product specification, and performance standards
  • Review new product plans and make recommendations for ease of manufacturability while meeting the product design objectives, such as strength, weight, corrosion resistance, electrical conductivity, and cost
  • Potentially supervise a crew of hourly employees
  • Various other duties as assigned to support the business
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Enrollment in Bachelor of Science program in Chemical Engineering or other related technical degrees
  • Completion of at least sophomore year of study by the summer of 2027
