Downstream Processing Operator, Augusta, Georgia, United States, Full-Time

Our platform is proven to work across scales, bridging the Valley of Death between lab and manufacturing more efficiently and more reliably to deliver the benefits of synthetic biology today. We are seeking a highly motivated Downstream Processing Operator. This person will be expected to play an integral part of Manus Bio’s manufacturing and process development team located in Augusta, GA.

The Downstream Processing Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the fermentation plant and providing overtime support as needed for production. This includes maintenance, equipment reliability, and operations. Creativity and decision-making skills are required. Must be able to maintain good working relationships with all personnel. Work as a member of the fermentation plant team, including assisting in the Pilot Plant. Controls, monitors, and measures fermentation processes as instructed. Abides by all safety, environmental, and quality requirements. Performs minor maintenance and duties related to product testing, including sampling.

Responsibilities:

  • Interface with production to provide resources to solve fermentation and product isolation problems.
  • Help evaluate fermentation experiments, including preparing fermentation and downstream equipment in accordance with SOPs, equipment setup, media preparation, equipment disassembly, cleaning, etc.
  • Collect samples during manufacturing for analytical analysis.
  • Prepare batch records, reflect changing experimental designs, and communicate with process development experts about design parameters.
  • Review batch records, perform data reduction, and organize results for analysis.
  • Coordinate daily Fermentation Plant activities, including scheduling, maintenance, troubleshooting, and process optimization.
  • Prepare SOPs for new processes or operations as needed.
  • Support Fermentation Plant maintenance activities, including rebuilding probes, changing gearboxes, modifying equipment.
  • Maintain Fermentation Plant equipment through work notifications and scheduled maintenance; use personal tools for minor repairs.
  • Adhere to EH&S policies and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Physical demands include climbing stairs and ladders; wear of protective equipment may be required.
  • Work schedule varies depending on manufacturing needs and extraordinary conditions.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • At least 3 years of fermentation or related plant operator experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions and support safe work practices.
  • Excellent team player with strong communication skills and collaborative attitude.
  • Flexibility in duties and ability to thrive in a start-up environment.
  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Knowledge of fermentation, downstream processes, microbiology, and laboratory procedures.
  • Flexibility in job rotations and assignments.
  • Basic PC skills including Windows and Microsoft Office.
