Job description

Lecturer Duties
  • Demonstrate awareness of and address the needs of a diverse student population—including age, abilities, cultural background, ethnicity, religion, economic background, primary language, sexual orientation, gender identity, and academic preparation—through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies, and advisement.
  • Organize all classes within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Ensure all classes meet as scheduled throughout the semester or term, in the mode (asynchronous, synchronous, bimchronous, in‑person, or hybrid) listed in the schedule.
  • Collaborate with the Chemical and Materials Engineering Assessment Coordinator to assess course and program learning outcomes.
  • Maintain office hours in accordance with University Policy.
  • Cooperate with the Department to allow for regular peer‑reviews of teaching.
  • Seek guidance from the Department Chair for clarification of University policies and procedures related to grading, testing, textbooks, office hours, curriculum goals, disability accommodations, and academic integrity.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering (or closely related field) required for lower‑division undergraduate courses.
  • Master’s degree in Chemical or Materials Engineering (or closely related field) required for upper‑division undergraduate and graduate courses.
  • Knowledge of the subject matter in the assigned teaching area demonstrated through relevant professional experience and/or Ph.D. or Sc.D. in Chemical or Materials Engineering (or closely related field).
  • Evidence of satisfactory achievement in previous academic work and commitment to teaching.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population through cross‑cultural study, training, teaching, or comparable experience.
Compensation

Compensation and salary range are determined by qualifications and experience. Anticipated hiring ranges:

  • L‑A / Range 2 – $5,507 to $5,959 per month
  • L‑B / Range 3 – $6,221 to $7,481 per month
  • L‑C / Range 4 – $6,825 to $9,431 per month
  • L‑D / Range 5 – $8,593 to $10,347 per month

Ranges are the anticipated monthly salary for full‑time academic year faculty; part‑time rates are prorated. There are 6 monthly payments per semester (full‑time annual salary equals rate × 12). See the Faculty Salary Schedule for more information.

Employment Conditions

Faculty must complete CSU employee training as required for their role (e.g., Data Security, FERPA, Preventing Discrimination and Harassment, Title IX, Health and Safety). The position requires ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority under Clery Act policies. Faculty designated as CSA must report Clery incidents and complete required training. The Dean may recommend or require compliance with safety measures that reduce COVID‑19 transmission to maintain campus operations.
