Job summary

UAB Medicine's 6 West Med Surg Post Surgical unit seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for full-time night shift (7pm–7am). The 24-bed unit handles post-operative bariatric care, including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy, with emphasis on safe staffing and high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities include coordinating staffing, directing and educating staff, and distributing patient care assignments each shift while evaluating outcomes and addressing concerns through established

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification within 1 month of hire date; AHA or Red Cross accepted.
• ACLS and PALS may be required within 6 months of hire for some units.
• Current RN license by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care.
• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during shift; contribute to performance evaluations.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop patient care assignments to ensure population-appropriate care.
• Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and address issues affecting outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating staff.
