Job summary

UAB Medicine's 5 East Oncology unit in Birmingham seeks an experienced RN to lead staffing and ensure high-quality patient care on night shift. You will direct and educate team members, assess needs, and help drive clinical objectives in a 22-bed unit.

The role requires current Alabama RN licensure, BLS within 30 days, and ACLS/PALS as applicable, with 1 year of nursing experience. Join a mission-driven team delivering compassionate care.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire (American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted).
• ACLS and PALS may be required in some units within 6 months of hire date or transfer.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Alabama Board of Nursing.

Responsibilities

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
• Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop/distribute patient care assignments.
• Ensure population-appropriate patient care is provided.
• Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and address issues affecting outcomes.
• Respond to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluation of staff.

Position Overview

• Department: Oncology
  
• Schedule: Full-time Nights; 3 - 12 hour shifts, 7pm - 7am
  
• Work Location: UAB St. Vincent's East

  5 East, Oncology is a 22-bed unit that specializes in the care of patients with a diagnosis or history of cancer. 5E also sees a variety of medical-surgical patients ranging from pneumonia and COPD to CHF and diabetes. Common surgical procedures for 5 East include biopsies, EGDs, lithotripsy, and cholecystectomies.

  
  

What You Will Do

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education:

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
