Job summary

Norman Regional Health System is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Med/Surg Observation Unit. This fast-paced 24-bed telemetry unit handles chest pain, syncope, heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. The RN role includes assessment, care coordination, and bedside handoffs.

Schedule is 7p-7a, 3 shifts per week, with night shifts. Requires Oklahoma RN license, BLS/ACLS, and potential Nurse Residency for those with less than one year of experience.

Qualifications

• Diploma or ADN required; BSN preferred.
• 1 year RN experience preferred.
• Current Oklahoma RN license.
• BLS and ACLS training during orientation and maintained through employment.
• Nurses with less than one year must complete Norman Regional's Nurse Residency Program.

Responsibilities

• Assess/reassess health care needs for individuals across appropriate age groups.
• Develop nursing diagnoses and outcomes with patient, family, and care team.
• Provide nursing care and coordinate interventions to meet patient goals using evidence-based practice.
• Evaluate patient outcomes and adjust care plans accordingly.
• Serve as department leader in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
• Maintain ACLS certification.
• Oversee bedside handoffs at shift changes.

Our Med/Surg Observation Unit is a fast paced 24 bed telemetry/medical-surgical unit. Common problems seen in our unit include chest pain, syncope, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and diabetes. Our nurse patient ratio ranges from 4-6 patients depending on acuity. Our care team includes a charge nurse and unit assistants with support from respiratory, lab, and case management departments. Job Summary

• Assessment/reassessment - Systematically assesses / reassesses the health care needs of individuals; appropriate for specific age groups and patient conditions. Involves patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate.
• Nursing Diagnosis and Outcomes - Analyzes assessment to determine nursing diagnosis and expected outcomes, involving patient, family and other healthcare providers as appropriate.
• Implementation and Coordination of Care - Provides nursing care through interventions to achieve goals and needs using professional judgement guided by current evidence-based practice, regulations and policy.
• Evaluation - Evaluates patient outcomes by utilizing the critical thinking process and evidence based knowledge to recognize problems, evaluate facts and reach sound conclusions.
• Professional Practice.
• Serves as department leader alongside and in absence of Nurse Manager.
• Maintain ACLS.
• RN will oversee and promote bedside handoff at shift changes.

Qualifications

Education

• Diploma or Associate’s degree (ADN) required, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.

Experience

• 1 year experience as a Registered Nurse preferred

Licensure/Certification

• Current Oklahoma Registered Nurse license.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) training or retraining is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment.
• RNs with less than one year experience are required to complete Norman Regional's Nurse Residency Program.
