Job summary

Brattleboro Retreat is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our RN Staff team in Brattleboro, VT. The role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients requiring complex psychiatric and medical support, administering medications, and supervising MHWs to ensure safe, therapeutic care.

The RN will participate in the multidisciplinary plan of care, document care activities, and support crisis intervention efforts within the unit.

Qualifications

• Must hold a State of Vermont licensed registered nurse.
• Preferred one year psychiatric nursing experience, or two years general nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Assumes Charge Nurse responsibilities for a given shift.
• Utilizes the nursing process to assess, implement and evaluate patient/family care.
• Provides nursing care (including the administration of medication) to meet patients’ needs.
• Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection, storage and delivery criteria for toxicology testing.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of a safe and therapeutic milieu in assigned care area.
• Adheres to and implements organizational and departmental policies and procedures as they pertain to work area.
• Participates in crisis intervention: assess milieu, identify potential crisis, intervene calmly and supportively.
• Documents crisis interventions and outcomes appropriately.
• Performs constant observations, intermittent observations and other patient safety procedures as assigned.
• Contributes to multidisciplinary care planning and communicates with team members through verbal reports and written documentation.
