What does the Charge Nurse (LPN) do?

In this leadership role at our skilled nursing care center, you will supervise and direct daily nursing activities and resident care under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, following physicians' orders and residents' care plans. You will ensure compliance with nursing standards and regulations.

Daily Responsibilities include:

  1. Supervising nursing staff, scheduling, and prioritizing resident care tasks.
  2. Assisting in staffing and shift coverage.
  3. Providing direct resident care, including treatments and procedures as ordered.
  4. Monitoring resident conditions, reporting changes, and administering medications.
  5. Assessing responses to care and updating care plans accordingly.
  6. Conducting quality audits, maintaining a safe environment, and adhering to safety procedures.
  7. Documenting all care activities accurately and confidentially.
  8. Assisting with admissions, transfers, discharges, and protecting resident privacy.

Qualifications:

  • Current, unencumbered LPN license in the practicing state.
  • Educational requirements: LPN certificate, Associate Degree, or Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • At least one year of geriatric nursing experience, including medication management.
  • One year in a supervisory or management role, with experience in budgets, staff development, and scheduling.
  • Strong communication and motivational skills.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities in resident and staff management.
  • Team-oriented, organized, and adaptable.
