Job summary

Novant Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for East Cooper Medical Center's Labor & Delivery unit in Mount Pleasant, SC. This full-time role delivers compassionate, evidence-based care during labor, delivery, and postpartum support.

You will mentor newer nurses, monitor fetal heart tones, and participate in emergency interventions while ensuring policy compliance and collaborative teamwork to maintain a safe, patient-centered birth environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing is required.
  • One year clinical nursing experience is required.
  • Current SC RN license; BCLS and ACLS certifications; PALS recommended.
  • Advanced certifications in obstetric specialties are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with obstetric emergencies and complex deliveries.
  • Provide bedside nursing support when unit is short-staffed.
  • Ensure adherence to obstetrical safety standards and fetal monitoring protocols.
  • Run unit huddles, share shift reports, and communicate high-risk cases.
  • Mentor newer L&D nurses and support hospital protocols.

Schedule: 7pm-7am - weekend and holiday rotation required

What You'll Do
  • Emergency Intervention: Assists floor nurses during acute crises such as shoulder dystocia, fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage, or emergency Cesareans.
  • Complex Deliveries: Provides hands-on assistance or steps into a bedside nursing role if the unit is short-staffed or a colleague needs a break.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensures strict adherence to obstetrical safety standards, fetal heart monitoring protocols, and unit-specific policies.
  • Shift Reports: Runs unit huddles to communicate updates, census numbers, and potential high-risk cases.
  • Mentorship: Acts as a resource and mentor for newer L&D nurses, assisting with fetal heart tone interpretations and hospital protocols.
What We’re Looking For
  • Education: 2 Year / Associate Degree, preferred. 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, preferred.
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. If your RN nursing license has been inactive, retired or lapsed for five years or more and you have not been licensed in another state during the last five years, successful completion of a Board approved refresher course is required prior to reactivating or reinstating your license. In order to be considered for current licensure status, you must apply for reinstatement within one year of completing the refresher course.
  • Experience: One year Clinical Experience, required
  • Licensure/Certification: Current unrestricted RN license in the State of South Carolina, required. Current BCLS and ACLS certifications; PALS is recommended, required. Current PALS, preferred. Advanced certification in specialty field and/or participation in professional organization(s), preferred.
