Job summary

Lifepoint Health’s National Park Medical Center is seeking a RN Charge Nurse to lead nursing and support staff on a shift, coordinate patient care needs, and manage staffing and workflows. The role requires a current RN license and a BSN, with specialty certifications to be obtained within specified timeframes.

You will provide direct patient care as needed, participate in admissions/discharges, and ensure safe, quality care while supporting professional growth among team members.

Qualifications

  • Current RN license in the state
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited school
  • BLS certification within 30 days of hire
  • ACLS and PALS within six months of hire
  • One year of experience preferred
  • ASLS certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift
  • Determines staffing levels and assignments based on census, acuity and workflow
  • Performs patient assessments and identifies needs
  • Coordinates admissions/discharges and transfers
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and may take assignments
  • Ensures necessary equipment and supplies are available
  • Documents medical necessity and updates care plans
  • Performs QA assessments and handles patient care inquiries

Join our team where you will provide compassionate care to patients alongside a dedicated team of Registered Nurses (RNs). As a Charge Nurse, you will play an important role in guiding nursing and support staff, coordinating patient care needs, assisting with staffing and workflow, and helping foster a positive environment that encourages professional growth and strong patient outcomes.

How You'll Contribute

A Charge Nurse who excels in this role:

  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Determines staffing levels and assignments based on availability, abilities, census, acuity, and workflow.
  • Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
  • Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Determines staffing levels and assignments based on availability, abilities, census, acuity, and workflow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and may take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
  • Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of patient care and identifies issues affecting outcomes.
  • Responds to patient care complaints and manages them through established channels.
  • Performs role-specific duties including entering orders, performing admissions/discharges, and coordinating transfers.
  • Ensures staff have necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality care.
  • Provides quality patient care; works flexible shifts/units as needed.
  • Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
  • Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
  • Performs timely and accurate QI assessments
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For

Applicants should have a current state RN license and possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing school. Additional requirements include:

  • Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS are required within six months of hire.
  • One year of experience preferred
  • ASLS certification preferred
