Responsibilities

• Audit charges daily, ensure correct mark-up and EAP code is entered.
• Complete OR journal daily and post necessary cancellation codes.
• Compare Surgical Services charges to schedule to ensure accurate patient charges.
• Perform daily charge audits and coordinate corrections in Epic.
• Notify nurses and managers when discrepancies exist in journal/implant records.
• Facilitate billing of Surgical Service patients within 72 hours of surgery and document if not met.
• Research charge kick outs and re-charge in Epic.
• Educate Surgical Services team on billing process changes.
• Assist with scheduling/billing of surgical patients.
• Ensure complete charges for OR, PACU, Heart & Vascular, Endoscopy, and related services.
• Process charges for supplies used from OR on medical-surgical units.
• Reconcile charges with 3rd party vendor invoices before PO requisition.
• Discharge Endoscopy nurse-based procedure patients.

Summary:
Supports all charge improvement efforts to achieve operational efficiency, revenue optimization and minimize missed charging opportunities across the division. This role serves a significant role in a high-profile group tasked with improving revenue results by taking a global view of clinical and financial processes, functions, and interdependencies for care delivery to final bill generation.

Responsibilities:

1. 1. Daily ensures that Preference Card charges are audited, the correct mark-up table is applied, and the correct EAP code is entered.
2. 2. Complete OR journal daily for all areas, making necessary changes as well as ensuring cancellation codes are posted as necessary so case will not be counted in statistics.
3. 3. Daily comparison of all Surgical Services resource locations to charge interface versus the schedule to ensure all patients are charged appropriately.
4. 4. Daily charge audits: consist of reviewing detailed charges, ensuring each departments times are documented correctly and that the periop record complete time is entered, duplicates, missing charges as well as implant records. Coordinate that corrections are made in Epic.
5. 5. Notifies the nurse responsible for documenting, department team leader and Surgical Services managers when discrepancies need to be corrected in journal information including implant record.
6. 6. Facilitates billing of each Surgical Service patient's account within 72 hours of surgery. Documents reason in Epic when this timeframe cannot be met.
7. 7. Researches charge kick outs and assign/charge as needed to correct charges in Epic for billing.
8. 8. Educates Surgical Services team members of changes or improvement in billing process.
9. 9. Assists with scheduling/billing of surgical patients as indicated.
10. 10. Ensures that all charges are complete for Surgical Services patients including OR, PACU, Heart & Vascular, Endoscopy, SS Procedures and Holly Springs Surgical Services.
11. 11. Processes charges for supplies used from OR on the medical surgical units.
12. 12. Reconciles charges with 3rd party vendor invoices prior to Purchase Order being requisitioned by SS Materials.
13. 13. Discharges Endoscopy nurse-based procedure patients.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Computer data entry and typing required. Prior experience in customer service desired. Medical terminology required.

• Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedure. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers and present information while responding to questions. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables where limited standardization exists.
