Job summary

Brewer Morris is seeking an Accounting & Audit Advisory Manager in Houston, hybrid. The role targets leveraging external audit experience into advisory work, partnering with CFOs and Controllers on complex audits and scalable financial reporting frameworks.

You’ll serve as quarterback between client and external auditors, oversee high-volume PBC requests, and mentor junior staff while supporting business development efforts.

Qualifications

• 5–7+ years of progressive external audit experience.
• Experience with a Big 4 or national public accounting firm.
• Active CPA, CA, or equivalent certification.
• 3+ years of experience leading engagements, projects, or teams.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial statement preparation, and month-end close.

Responsibilities

• Serving as the primary liaison between client management, Controllers, accounting teams, and external auditors.
• Managing the audit process, including high volumes of PBC requests, supporting documentation, deadlines, and deliverables.
• Reviewing PBC schedules, workpapers, reconciliations, financial analyses, and audit support before they are provided to external auditors.
• Helping clients understand what auditors are requesting and the underlying audit objective.
• Preparing and reviewing audit-ready workpapers, account reconciliations, and supporting analyses.
• Identifying discrepancies, documentation gaps, and potential audit issues before they create delays.
• Anticipating auditor questions and proactively addressing potential follow-up requests.
• Working directly with external auditors to clarify, consolidate, and, when appropriate, professionally challenge requests.
• Assisting with US GAAP financial statements, footnote disclosures, and technical accounting memoranda.
