Job summary

Chicago Public Schools is seeking a CFBU Coordinator to lead outreach and enrollment efforts for Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, and related public benefits across CPS families and schools.

Reporting to the Program Manager, you will conduct virtual and in-person presentations, support schools in implementing systems for EEU, and collaborate with community partners to expand access to health and wellness services for CPS students and families.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred.
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with healthcare education, in a school setting, or with public benefits programs.
Experience in All Kids, Medicaid, and the SNAP programs is preferred.

Responsibilities

Complete a minimum of 25 household SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, and TANF applications per month.
Conduct virtual and in-person school technical assistance presentations and community-based outreach for parents and staff at all schools within an assigned network as the primary contact on Medicaid and SNAP enrollment and public benefit rights.
Collaborate with all schools within an assigned network to ensure they have a Medicaid Designee.
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations and state agencies (e.g., IDHFS, IDHS).
Work with CFBU leaders to develop sustainable processes to support enrollment, engagement, and utilization of care improvements for OSHW.
Respond to management requests, including hotline coverage during high call volume periods.
Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Children and Family Benefits Unit (CFBU) Coordinator is responsible for conducting educational outreach to CPS families, staff, and community members to increase enrollment, engagement, and utilization (EEU) of Social Services, including but not limited to Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). They provide frontline support and coach schools in developing systems to address the health and wellness needs of students and the school community, including connecting students with appropriate internal and external health services. This is a full-time, exempt position that will be paid for time worked on a salary basis.

Responsibilities

Complete a minimum of 25 household SNAP, Medicaid, CHIP, and TANF applications per month.
Conduct virtual and in-person school technical assistance presentations and community-based outreach for parents and staff at all schools within an assigned network , as the primary contact on Medicaid and SNAP program enrollment, navigation of social service resources, providing health care knowledge, and information on public benefit rights, eligibility, and renewal for CPS families
Collaborate with all schools within an assigned network to ensure they have a Medicaid Designee.
Cultivate and maintain partnerships with community-based organizations and state agencies at the local level such as the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (IDHFS) and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS).
Work with Senior CFBU Coordinators and CFBU Team Leads to develop and operationalize sustainable processes to support functional enrollment, engagement, and utilization of care improvements for the OSHW.
Responds to and completes tasks relevant to OSHW business processes per the request of management, such as covering hotline response during periods of high call volume, disease response support, or as requested by leadership.
Other duties as assigned.

Experience Required

Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with healthcare education, in a school setting, or with public benefits programs.
Experience in All Kids, Medicaid, and the SNAP programs is preferred.

Other Requirements

Must have access to reliable transportation or access to public transportation to travel to various locations within the City of Chicago is required
Evening and weekend work is required as needed

Knowledge of Chicago's communities and the social determinants of health.
Exceptional writing, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including public speaking.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment independently, function effectively, and collaboratively work in a team environment with other CPS departments, with a high level of personal investment in contributing to the priorities of the organization as a whole.
Ability to work with minimum supervision.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively multi-task.
Possess integrity and tact when dealing with confidential information and sensitive situations.
Must be proficient with the use of computers and software, including but not limited to: Google Suite, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions; however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
