We are currently looking for a Certified Welding Inspector to join our dynamic, fast-paced, and growing team. The Weld Inspector is responsible for providing supervision to craft personnel in the execution of welding quality. Rhoads Industries has been certified as an ISO 9001 compliant company since March 2005. In addition to ISO certification, Rhoads maintains certification with the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), AISC, and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Certifications are maintained through a comprehensive and coordinated Quality Assurance (QA) Program (QAP).
What You Will Be Doing
- Performing and/or coordinating QA functions such as inspections, physical and chemical testing, qualification testing, non-destructive testing, and witnessing formal operational tests as assigned.
- Perform welder certification testing and manage the certification database.
- Reviewing customer welding specifications and supporting customer audits of Rhoads’ welding management system.
- Working closely with manufacturing operations to advise on welding procedure and welding quality.
- Ensure that Rhoads welding management program conforms to code requirements.
- Monitor weld quality.
- Works closely with Quality Manager to assure welding and fabrication quality.
- Duties during the welding process
- Checking the purging requirementfor SS and Alloy steel pipe. Also, to check the purging gas type (mostly argon gas is used for purging), and purging gas pressure/flow rate.
- To check the root faces for visual defectsand verify that inter-run cleaning is done for the removal of slag.
- Checking of size and type of electrodes used if they are according to the WPS or not.
- Make sure the welded area is properly coveredby using a fire blanket or other means.
- Verifying inter-pass temperatures, that do not exceed the level as mentioned in the WPS. (Infrared thermal gun is used to measure the Inter-pass temperature).
- Checking weather conditions if there is heavy wind or rain welding should not be carried out.
- Observing welding conditionsfor root run/hot pass and all subsequent runs, and inter-run cleaning.
- Checking welding processesand all related variable parameters. (voltage, amperage, travel speed, etc.)
- Carrying out visual inspectionof the welded joint including dimensional aspects
- Monitoring and checking NDT requirements(that is the method, qualification of operator, and execution)
- Checking post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) and Hardness test requirements.
- Identify repairsfrom an assessment of visual or NDT reports.
- Visual inspection of the weld joint after PWHTto make sure there is no distortion and no crack.
Your Background- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI). Applicants must have a valid certification required.
- At least 2 years of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding – Steel certification.
- At least 1 year CWI experience.
- Ability to interpret specifications, mechanical drawings, P&ID’s, and blueprints.
- Ability to communicate requirements in an industrial environment, and to give effective direction by using written, verbal, or sketching/Cad.
- Thorough familiarity with and understanding of AWS, ASME, AISC and ABS Codes.
- Familiarity with AISC and Mil-Spec/Tech-Pub Codes preferred but not required.
- Understanding and familiarity with ISO and UL Certifications
- Must have strong written and oral communication skills.
- Have skill in handling multiple responsibilities, setting priorities, managing tasks, and overseeing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Have demonstrated skill in working under time pressure and in the ability to adapt in rapidly changing environments.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of QA industry references.
- Be proficient in computer operation, word processing, and spreadsheet skills.
- Be capable of effective interaction in a team or matrixed environment.
- Possess superior organizational skills, be detail-oriented & accurate, and demonstrate advanced analytical skills.
The Work Environment at Rhoads- The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.
- Must be able to work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, walking, and driving in an automobile.
- May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting and possibly at increased heights climbing and descending ladders and ship stairways.
