Job summary

Huntington Ingalls Industries, Inc. in Newport News, VA seeks a Welder (Certification Required) to join the X18 WELDERS team.

You will be trained and qualified through the shipyard's welding program and perform structural and/or pipe welds on steel foundations and joints on aircraft carriers and submarines. You must have a welding certificate or diploma, be able to pass a background check and drug screen, and meet physical requirements including lifting 40 pounds and working in confined spaces.

Qualifications

• Certificate or diploma in Welding or a directly related field from a recognized program.
• Ability to take measurements or willingness to learn.
• Must pass a background investigation and drug screen.
• Must pass a physical agility test.
• Ability to kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop and climb daily.
• Must lift at least 40 pounds.
• Must be able to work outdoors year-round in all weather.
• Must be able to work overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform tack, fillet and full penetration welds on steel foundations and joints.
• Utilize SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW welding processes.
• Complete welds in multiple positions using manual and mechanized methods.
• Adhere to nondestructive testing requirements (visual, MT, UT, radiographic).
