Job summary

Belle Plaine Animal Hospital is seeking a Credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our team and provide high-quality care across anesthesia, surgery, dentistry, and client education. You will partner with veterinarians to ensure smooth patient interactions and procedures, with a focus on safety and compassionate care.

Hours are Monday–Friday 8:00–5:00, full-time (32–40 hours across 4–5 shifts) or part-time.

Qualifications

• State license to work as a certified/licensed/registered veterinary technician in the state of employment.
• Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; over 25 pounds with assistance.
• Basic computer skills.
• Basic math and ability to calculate medication dosages.
• Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians in veterinary medicine and surgery and other tasks as needed.
• Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, and providing client education.
• Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during surgery.
• Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
• Take digital radiographs following proper safety procedures.
• Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
• Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies.
• Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions; exercise compassion and care.
• Communicate with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
• Any other duties as assigned.
