Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Hammond seeks a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to provide assessment, individual and group therapy, and program planning within our psychiatric care program.

You will collaborate with physicians and the treatment team, document services, and ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards while tailoring activities to patient needs and discharge planning.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct therapeutic recreation therapy services in accordance with accepted standards of therapeutic recreation practice, aligned with Joint Commission and federal/state regulations.
• Plans and conducts individual and group therapy as assigned by physician's order.
• Completes all necessary paperwork/documents within 72 hours of admission and compiles multidisciplinary assessments under physician supervision.
• Performs chart audits of the recreational activities provided to patients.
• Keeps active as a treatment team member, attending meetings and reporting patient progress toward goals.
• Documents services in the medical record in a timely manner.
• Communicates with patients and families in an age/disability/culturally sensitive manner and identifies safety and equipment needs.
• Conducts treatments and discharge planning with consideration for age, disability, and cultural needs, involving family when appropriate.
• Develops and provides bi-annual in-services for staff and community initiatives.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), provides assessment, individualized intervention planning, treatment planning and group therapy to further patient/family/group progress in treatment according to Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, the Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement standards.

Essential Functions:

1. Provides direct therapeutic recreation therapy services in accordance with accepted standards of therapeutic recreation practice in a timely fashion as outlined by Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, and the Hospital's Mission statement and CQI monitors.
2. Plans and conducts individual and group therapy as assigned by physician's order.
3. Completes all necessary paperwork/documents within 72 hours of admission. (Conducts, assesses and interprets completion of Comprehensive Integrated Assessment, reviews all multidisciplinary assessments and compiles a Multidisciplinary Treatment Integration under the supervision of the attending physician.
4. Performs chart audits of the recreational activities provided to patients.
5. Participates as an active member of the treatment team, attending meetings and reporting on assigned patients and progress toward treatment goals.
6. Documents in a timely manner in the medical record the services rendered.
7. Communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive related manner to patients and their families and identifies safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs.
8. Conducts treatments and discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs, and involving members of the patient's support system in decision making as appropriate.
9. Develops, plans and provides in-services for inter/intra - community/staff on a minimum of a bi-annual basis.
10. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
