Job summary

Oceans Behavioral Hospital Biloxi is seeking a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to support patients across age groups in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services.

You will perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and lead individual and group therapy sessions, coordinating with the care team to promote recovery and well-being while adhering to regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Must hold CTRS certification and maintain licensed status as required.
• Experience with individual and group therapy is desirable.
• Ability to plan and document assessments and treatment plans.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct therapeutic recreation therapy services in accordance with accepted standards and regulations.
• Plans and conducts individual and group therapy as assigned by physician's order.
• Completes necessary documentation within 72 hours of admission and maintains chart accuracy.
• Participates as an active member of the treatment team and reports patient progress.
• Documents services in the medical record and communicates with patients and families with sensitivity.
• Assists with discharge planning and coordinates with the patient's support system.
• Communicates with patients/families considering age, disability, culture and safety needs.
• Conducts treatments and discharge planning with involvement of support system.
• Develops and provides in-services for staff bi-annually.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS), provides assessment, individualized intervention planning, treatment planning and group therapy to further patient/family/group progress in treatment according to Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, the Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement standards.

Essential Functions:

1. Provides direct therapeutic recreation therapy services in accordance with accepted standards of therapeutic recreation practice in a timely fashion as outlined by Joint Commission, Federal and State Regulations, and the Hospital's Mission statement and CQI monitors.
2. Plans and conducts individual and group therapy as assigned by physician's order.
3. Completes all necessary paperwork/documents within 72 hours of admission. (Conducts, assesses and interprets completion of Comprehensive Integrated Assessment, reviews all multidisciplinary assessments and compiles a Multidisciplinary Treatment Integration under the supervision of the attending physician.
4. Performs chart audits of the recreational activities provided to patients.
5. Participates as an active member of the treatment team, attending meetings and reporting on assigned patients and progress toward treatment goals.
6. Documents in a timely manner in the medical record the services rendered.
7. Communicates in an age/disability/culturally sensitive related manner to patients and their families and identifies safety, psychosocial, special mobility and special equipment needs.
8. Conducts treatments and discharge planning in accordance with age/disability/cultural needs, and involving members of the patient's support system in decision making as appropriate.
9. Develops, plans and provides in-services for inter/intra - community/staff on a minimum of a bi-annual basis.
10. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
